Zocherpark

The park that is located directly opposite to the Catherijnesingel is the Zocherpark. The narrow park is streches for nearly 5 km and is a national monument.

The mayers' office, in 1830, instructed an architect named Zocher to construct a park on top of the medieval city fortifications. To date, over 600 trees still stand firm after having been planted during that period of initial construction. This makes the Zocherpark one of the oldest public parks in the country.

Lavendergarden & playground

On the south-east side of Zwaanschild, you'll find a lavendergarden with roses. In full bloom it's a sight to behold. Which is also beautiful in autumn, our Indian Summer!

Next to the lavendergarden, you'll find our local playground for small children.

'Kromme Rijn'-area

Only at a stone's throw away, near Ledig Erf, you'll find a small canal (the Kromme Rijn, which means Crooked or bending Rhine-river) which slowly widens into a river after a kilometre or so.

The area on both sides of the riverbank houses 3 estates (New-Amelisweerd, Old-Amelisweerd and Rhijnauwen). It's a great area for outdoor recreation, such as running, hiking and biking.
